At a meeting today, the Shadow Executive for the new Buckinghamshire Council considered the Chiltern District Council’s plans to develop the Chiltern Lifestyle Centre in Amersham. This will replace the current community centre, Chiltern Pools, youth club, nursery and library with a modern, energy efficient centre for the whole community.
Cllr Martin Tett, Leader of the Shadow Executive said:
“The Shadow Executive have reviewed Chiltern District Council’s plans for a new sports, leisure, library and community centre in Amersham and agreed them at our meeting today.
The plans for the Chiltern Lifestyle Centre should improve access to modern sports and community facilities for the local people. It also matches plans for the new Buckinghamshire Council to build closer links with our communities and improve local services. There is no doubt that the current facilities are not up to scratch and would need significant ongoing investment to repair them to good standards – which would be a consistent drain on council tax payers money in the long term.
The new modern centre will hopefully increase sports and social activities for local people of all ages, provide a meeting place for local community groups and clubs as well as somewhere for the new council to build partnerships and links to support healthier lifestyles and tackle social isolation.
These plans will come to fruition after the new Buckinghamshire Council begins operation next April and will hopefully form a key element of a new and improved sports and community offering across the county”.
